To understand the U.S. Public Opinion on Palestine, we must first consider the American public. The people of the United States are much like those in other parts of the world—they have families, face insecurities, and share common concerns.
When examining the U.S. response to the Palestine issue, we find a divided public. Some Americans support the Palestinians, opposing the killing of women, children, and the elderly. They advocate for the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and stand against colonialism and racism, viewing the ongoing violence in Palestine as a significant problem.
Why is there such a divided opinion? To answer this, we must look at both the politics and the economy of the United States. A portion of the population supports the ongoing conflict in Palestine because they benefit from the war economy. These beneficiaries include military contractors, universities with investments in military industries, and businesses with financial stakes in the conflict.
Another group views Muslims as enemies, a belief shaped by longstanding conflicts between Christians and Muslims in the Middle East. This mindset is often driven by those who see the conflict as a religious war rather than one motivated by profit or control over resources like oil. Despite these beliefs, secular governments in countries like Saudi Arabia or Pakistan do not prioritize these conflicts in the same way.
The U.S. public is not monolithic, and opinions on the conflict vary. Some are religiously motivated, viewing the conflict through the lens of their beliefs. Others, more secular, have different perspectives based on nationalism and economic interests.
However, many Americans who support peace and oppose the killing of innocents find their opinions marginalized by the government. Despite being the majority, their voices are often overshadowed by powerful institutions that prioritize their own interests.
Still, it’s important to recognize the positive side of America. There are people—both secular and religious—who work tirelessly to bridge divides and foster understanding. These individuals are the hope for the future, as they are the ones who can push their governments to end the violence. They play a critical role in forming connections between Americans, Christians, Muslims, and others, working towards the common goal of humanity’s well-being.
Most of the young people who argue with sentiments and are less impacted by biasness, have a positive attitude towards Muslims and Palestinians. Youth on both sides of the conflict can help yield positive outomes.
Furthermore, the ground reality, as I believe, is more skewed in the favor of Palestinians. These big media houses are a mouthpiece of Governments and thus work as a face saving mouthpiece most of the time to divide public opinion or paint a particular pov. Still, they could not hide it because of hightened public support for Palestinians women, kids, elders, and civilians being bombed, and crushed to death with American and British Tax Payer’s Money.
The challenge lies in overcoming the forces that seek to divide and control. These entities profit from maintaining their dominance over governments and manipulating public opinion for their gain. The key to progress is empowering those who advocate for peace and justice, ensuring that their voices are heard and their efforts are supported.
